Mommy at 72

I interrupt my New York series to greet the grand dame of the Mendoza family a Happy Happy 72nd Birthday! Mom was pregnant for most of the sixties. :) Here she is with her six children (ahhh…. finished with all the pregnancies, this is the year 1970) in their Von Trapp Family – Filipino version playclothes which she made herself.

Thirty-six years after that picture, now with eleven grandchildren (twelve soon but not mine), and 72 years of living gracefully in this world, Mom is still going strong. Here she is with her groovy jacket and sunglasses going around Brattleboro, Vermont with Dad as if they were hippies from the sixties:

Here’s another picture of her with Dad and her eldest apo Tammie. You remember Tammie? I used to walk her to school when she was five and she cried while the snow was falling when I left her for the Philippines. She’s now eighteen and very pretty. This picture was taken during a seafood festival at Hampton Beach.

Another thing about Mom: She graduated with a degree of BA Piano from the St. Scholastica’s College of Music. Most of her kids and some of the apos also learned to play the piano.

    That picture with the maple syrup sign is not in Woodstock. That was in Brattleboro, Vermont.

    Thanks all of you for greeting Mommy! She hasn’t read this yet because she’s honeymooning somewhere with Dad… I’m not really sure where. :) Hay naku! Ang hirap talaga magpalake ng magulang! ;)

    Thanks all for the greetings. Yes Thank God for my 72 years, my 46 years happily married to a great husband, my 6 wonderful children with their spouses and 10, going on 11, grandchildren.

    I always feel I have wings on my shoulders whenever people tell me what a beautiful family I have. All of this I owe to – hold on – Romy, Adele and Joey, Chinky and Howard, Junjun and Celeste, Ichay and Raul, Roland and Gingging, Tonette and Dinno – Tammie, Toni, Tia, Marina, Mariel, Maddie, Mia, Boria, Luigi, and David.

    And of course I thank God for my health because I feel like 27.
