Cambodia’s Beach Get-Away
Cambodia is not only Angkor Wat, temples, and Angkorian history and culture. On the southern part of the country is Sihanoukville, Cambodia’s “beach town” or “port community” which sits in the center of a small peninsula jutting into the gulf of Thailand. Taking advantage of the long weekend, Honey and I drove to Sihanoukville which is about 230 km. from Phnom Penh. We checked in at the Sokha Hotel, which I must say, is one of the best hotels (if not the best) I’ve been to in Cambodia. They have great service, great food, great facilities, and best of all, their own private beach.
Sokha Beach is like Boracay’s long beach with the white powdery sands and flat ironed sea with different grades of green and blue… but without the bars and vendors.
There is a brick walkway that runs alongside the beach where people jog or stroll. Along the walkway is a bar and a spa.
This is the swimming pool and the bar where we order fruitshakes.
This is the balcony of our room which overlooks the swimming pool and the sea.
You know what’s the only problem with Sihanoukville? Alas, there’s no Internet! That’s okay. We had a very relaxing weekend where we immersed ourselves in the sun and the sea and oh those sumptuous lobsters!

Wow! What a vacation. Parang Boracay nga but more relaxing.
Hi Ann! Yes we had a great time… buhay tamad!
And to think that it was only a 3-hour drive from Phnom Penh.
Wow! It looks very exclusive! Boracay gets very crowded nowadays. I think I would prefer my private beach !
wow! somehow parang boracay nga. and it’s okay that there’s no internet. really a time to relax
Looks like everyone has said their WOW’s so I won’t say it na… Hahaha.
But really, that’s one great looking beach resort. And I bet it’s not as expensive as say, El Nido?
Sidney, I think the long private beach is the best part… no annoying vendors, drunkards, sleazy bars… most of all, no cigarette butts, empty beer bottles, etc..
Tin-Tin… there’s no Internet but my mind is always thinking about what I’d post next. Haha! Really getting to be a blog addict.
Sngl, I just checked on the Internet… I’ve never been there but El Nido is about $200 per room. Sokha is only $85 per room per night (with our corporate rate). I guess it’s not bad considering all the amenities, free water sports, and first class facilities. And we also got to save on transportation because we just drove and didn’t have to take the plane or boat.
That’s real cheap, considering all those amenities…
Excellent weather and great beaches… hmmm. Cambodia had really changed. Nice and tidy too!
Thanks for visiting BW. Yes, the weather was lovely when we went to Sihanoukville. Technically, it’s the rainy season in Cambodia. However, their rainy season means that it rains for a few hours in the afternoons. They’re very lucky in that sense. Their beaches are still clean and not messed up by tourists yet.
