Of Dentists and Facial Therapists

Published by Toe at 12:20 am under Memoirs, Personal

I went to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned sometime last week and then had a facial a day after that. Funny how there are so many parallels between dentists/clinics/dental appointments and facials/facial therapists/facial rooms. Consider this…

My dental cleaning took thirty minutes, my facial took forty minutes. My dentist and my facial therapist both wore white gowns. They both did a lot of funny things to the front side of my head. My dentist probably had at least six years of college education and had to pass some sort of exam. I don’t know how long my facial therapist studied to become such, but I’m quite certain it’s less than six years and she didn’t take any board exam. But I paid my dentist only $15 and I paid my facialist $20.

For my dental cleaning, I had to lie down on a dental chair in an immaculately-white dental clinic. For my facial, I had to lie down on a bed with a massager that massaged my back and my legs. The dental cleaning was definitely more stressful, with all the wheezing and whirring and picking and saliva-collecting. On the other hand, the facial had a lot of cool packs, exfoliating, scrubbing, and massaging. The dental cleaning reeked of the smell of anesthesia and saliva while the facial was replete with the scents of peppermint and oatmeal. My dentist removed my plaque while my facial therapist removed my whiteheads. My dentist pulled and twisted my mouth and my lips making me look like a deformed Joker. And my facial therapist… well, she made me look like this…

Inaykupo! In English… Mummmmy! :)

I’ll pick a facial therapist over a dentist anytime. :D The sessions with a facial therapist are definitely a lot more pleasant and relaxing.

definitely a trip to the facial therapist is a walk in the park compared to the dentist. but if the facial therapist would make you look like a mummy, i’d go to the dentist anytime hehehe. :D i bet refreshed ka na for your trip back to the philippines? :D

hahaha…I hate it also if they put facial mask in my face. Aside from the short-term “lifting” or “firming” effect, wala ng efek yan hehe

Ang like ko naman sa teetch cleaning is the feeling after the whole ordeal…pag nafe-feel mo yung gaps between your teeth na pinamamahayan ng plaque before hehe

Never pa akong nagpa-facial. It’s not that I feel feminized if I do so, I just don’t have the courage to go. Eh duh! Lalaki eh!

I tried facial cleaning once when I went back to Pinas :D , sarap pala ng feeling ! Haven’t tried in France though, medyo expensive so I buy facial mask na lang para tipid hihihi !

I’d never have thought of comparing/contrasting the visit to dentist and facial therapist. That’s because I always dread and put off going to the dentist, while I always welcome and eagerly anticipate the experience of having a facial. Just recently though, my sis went to a facial therapist to have her blackheads removed and she said it was so painful she couldn’t stop her tears! She came home looking like a red tomato, but after the pain disappeared, she was so happy with her smooth face! That, was more like a visit to a dentist, so much pain physical and psychological, but then after the visit, the teeth feels so clean that you forget about the pain. Till the next visit.

    Hehehe who took that picture?

Me I dread having a facial it hurts really bad when they pinch and pull out those blackheads. Not that I prefer going to a dentist either. :D

$15 dental fee? what a bargain!
dito at least 30 pounds a go (kahit pa anong gawin sa ngipin), kaya wag magtaka kung ang ngipin nang mga Briton ay sungki sungki…
I’m loving the facial treatment :-)

  12. snglguyon 07 Jul 2008 at 6:40 pm

Goes to show that people, women especially, wouldn’t mind paying a premium to look pretty. No wonder cosmetic companies are making a killing, lalo na yung mga whitening products, hehe. :-D

    Ha ha ha…..

so kung Inaykupo! In English… Mummmmy! ano naman ang Mommmy, nanaykupo?

Napaisip at napatawa mo ako ngayong araw na ito.

  14. bwon 07 Jul 2008 at 8:57 pm

Dental cleaning for 15 bucks is a dream ! The fees for cleaning here is about 100 bucks but it is normally covered by company dental insurance, max of 2 visits per year.

I’m glad your dentist wasn’t also a facial therapist because it would have been one heck of a pit stop hahaha :)

  15. Ewokon 08 Jul 2008 at 3:13 am

what an enteraining post. $20 for facial, that’s a steal.

  16. Wilon 08 Jul 2008 at 9:12 am

I’m not familiar with that therapy, but I suppose it gets rid of wrinkles. And so you also pay someone to pop your pimples? Sounds like fun. hehe

  17. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:43 am

Panaderos, yeah me too… may libreng masahe pa ‘yan sa facial. I don’t think I want a massage from my dentist. :)

  18. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:44 am

Carlotta, not yet… I think I need another trip back to the facialist to prepare my face for the impending Manila pollution. :)

  19. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:46 am

Verns, yeah… I know… hehe… you feel that you can breathe in-between the gaps. :) I actually liked that mask… it felt so cool and smelt like oatmeal that I wanted to eat it. :)

  20. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:48 am

Dong Ho, parang deja vu kc when I lay down on the bed for the facial. I thought it was a similar experience to my dental appointment the day before and I thought it was quite silly that I paid more to my facialist. :)

  21. Cookieon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:51 am

    ANG MUD PACK!!! Hehehe :D

I just remembered that commercial from way back.

Me, I’d take the facial anytime :D

  22. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:52 am

LIW, Honey feels the same way. Before in Manila, I’d usually go with him to Bruno’s which is a barber shop which offers facials… so it’s okay with him. And although it’s a barber shop, they also give facials to women so sabay kami. :) I don’t go that often either… my last time was actually a year ago pa. I’m too lazy to go regularly. And it’s not as necessary as going to the dentist. Besides, I’m quite sure that facials are expensive in the States. Haha… natawa ako sa nanay mo. :)

  23. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:55 am

Haze, yeah, that’s what’s nice about living in these countries, facials, manicures, spas are very affordable. :) If I lived in Europe, I don’t think I could even afford a facial mask. Probably would have to make do with soap and virgin coconut oil. :)

  24. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 11:59 am

IA, oooh… it must be painful to have blackheads removed. Kawawa naman pinsan mo! Naku, the stresses we have to go through to be beautiful. :)

  25. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:01 pm

Daphne, my friend who’s no longer my friend. :) Oh, I never need to have my blackheads removed. I used to have warts though… but I’d go to the dermatologist for that. Oops sorry… too much info. :)

  26. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:04 pm

:) The facial wasn’t painful for me… it was quite relaxing. It’s just taking time to go there which is my problem… but the time spent was all worth it. :)

  27. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:06 pm

It was so looong and so exciting. Shucks! Kampi ako kay Roger. :( You must be having a blast in Phuket right now! :)

  28. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:08 pm

Pining, hahahaha… so that’s why their teeth are like that! I’ve always wondered. :) Yeah… dental fees are cheap in Manila too. :)

  29. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:10 pm

Snglguy, oh I never use whitening products. In fact, I prefer a little color in my cheeks. :) Hey… mura na ‘yan… and the Vietnamese therapist is really good. It’s just the time that I’m there that hassles me. :)

  30. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:14 pm

  31. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:16 pm

BW, bwahahahaha…. that would be crazy… having your teeth and your feet cleaned at the same time. It’s almost like washing your hair and brushing your teeth in the shower at the same time. :)

Oh, we don’t have dental insurance here… so we might as well go to regular dental check-ups to keep our teeth healthy. :)

  32. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:17 pm

Ewok, indeed! I plan to have one more visit before I go home. :)

  33. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:19 pm

Wil, hehe… I neither have pimples nor wrinkles. ;) But it cleans and the pores and removes my whiteheads making my face feeling clean and smooth. :) If I had pimples though, I wouldn’t have a facial to have it removed, I’d go to the dermatologist. :)

  34. Toeon 08 Jul 2008 at 12:20 pm

Cookie, oh yeah… no sharp objects and whirring and wheezing when having a facial. :)

  35. tutubi philippineson 08 Jul 2008 at 8:54 pm

Hello ms.TOE :) came by to see if you are still blogging in Cambodia. Miss your blog. take care…

  37. Veraon 09 Jul 2008 at 7:05 am

Kahit masakit magpafacial, ok lang. I posted a pic of my boyfriend the one time he went to a facialist with me. Let me get you the link… The facial pic is hidden somewhere in this post: http://verabear.blogspot.com/2008/03/thursday-thirteen-8.html

As for San Benissa, it’s a 5-floor walk up, medium-rise condo community in Fairview, QC. It is a great investment and we’re still thinking about how we can improve it either to live in it or rent out (even re-sell). Instead of posting my own pics for now, here’s a link to a promotional video I found on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSrOWQPINYM&feature=related

Thanks for the visit Toe :)

  38. Toeon 09 Jul 2008 at 11:59 am

Tutubi, well, you don’t seem ugly in your blog. In fact, you seem like a splendidly charming and wonderful person. :)

  39. Toeon 09 Jul 2008 at 12:03 pm

Vera, hahahaha… your boyfriend is a good sport! :) I need to bring Honey with me to get a facial… but he’s too lazy. :) That’s really wonderful about San Benissa… more people should think like you and start making investments.

  40. Momoftwoon 09 Jul 2008 at 10:54 pm

    Wow! That’s pretty cheap!

Just dropping by..hope all is well. I have a new blogsite :)

  41. zherwinon 10 Jul 2008 at 1:05 pm

at least naka-smile yung mummy. hehehe.

i haven’t tried going to a derma (maybe sooon :D ) so the only idea i have of them is that they only put something on your face, clean it and then you open your wallet and pay an amount equivalent to one’s dinner, and then, that’s it.

mas masarap sa spa, promise. hehehe

  42. Toeon 11 Jul 2008 at 11:48 am

Hi Momoftwo, yes it is cheap. Will visit your new site soon. :)

  43. Toeon 11 Jul 2008 at 11:49 am

Zherwin, spa nga ‘yan. :) And it really felt good. :)

  44. annamanilaon 20 Jul 2008 at 9:48 pm

Ahahaha. I can just guess kung sino yung pinakuha mo ng picture. The things we do to have something funny to blog about ha.

Alam mo when faces are mummified, hindi halata ang mga lines and ridges. Sana mauso yan. ahahaha.

  45. sixteron 27 Jul 2008 at 10:22 pm

Massager? Masseuse for female and masseur for male.

  46. Toeon 29 Jul 2008 at 9:19 pm

:) We don’t have to worry too much about our chickenpox marks too. :)

  47. Toeon 29 Jul 2008 at 9:21 pm
