Happy Merry Christmas

I remember our first Christmas here in Cambodia five years ago in 2002. Then, Christmas was virtually non-existent in this pre-dominantly Buddhist country that there were no Christmas gift wraps to be bought anywhere and we had to wrap our gifts with birthday wrappings. There were no Christmas trees and Christmas lights anywhere. There were hardly any Christmas parties to go to (most Filipinos go home to the Philippines during the holidays). I did see one Santa in the supermarket but he was a sad malnourished Santa. He did give me three pieces of candy though.
I remember how we spent our first Christmas eve in Cambodia. Honey and I opened all our gifts (all two of them) and then went to sleep.

Five years has passed and now, Cambodia is starting to celebrate Christmas. Hotels are offering Christmas eve buffets and Christmas day brunches. Stores are strewn with Christmas trimmings and giant Christmas trees (they’re purple though and not red and green). There’s now even the annual Christmas Charity Bazaar. And it’s much easier to buy Christmas gift wraps and Christmas decors in stores.

Yes, Christmas has come to Cambodia and this Christmas eve, people will be greeting each other…

    A lot of us Filipinos who are living in Europe have the tendency to really miss Christmas telling that “Iba pa rin ang Christmas sa atin, dito sa Europe parang one week before Christmas, don pa lang ma feel yung spirit” but reading this post make us realize that Christmas is not really where you are, but what’s in the heart and the real meaning of the celebration :D !     That’s nice to know Christmas is now being celebrated there as well. Sinasbit din ba nila yung Parol nila o pang new year lang nila? I saw parols when I was there. Merry Christmas Toe! Have a joyous celebration!

    Happy Merry Christmas, Toe!

    Sa panahong ito na lahat ay mabilis na nagbabago, ipinagpapasalamat ko ang pagiging absolute at constant ng ilang mga bagay. 1) ang araw na natalisod ako sa blog mo habang nagre-research ako ng tungkol sa Cambodia, 2) sa nakakaenganyo mong profile pic (mga cute na paa na nakataas sa ere), 3) mga samu’t saring kuwento na labis kong kinatutuwaan, at 4) sa marami pang bagay na minsan o madalas ay nakakalimutan ko.
