Team Philippines Wins International Bowling Tournament

Published by Toe at 2:06 pm under Cambodia, Philippines, Work

Okay, okay… so in reality, it wasn’t really as grand as the title of this entry suggests. It was really just a friendly competition between amateurs, and I daresay, beginners even. It was organized as a pseudo-networking, pseudo-sporty event, and all-out fun among our colleagues and counterparts here in Phnom Penh. Our friends from the US, UK, Australia, and Singapore participated. If it weren’t Ramadan, our colleagues from Indonesia and Brunei may have also joined.

Our hosts, the Americans, were kind enough to sponsor the entire bowling alley as well as the dozens and dozens of beer and pizza. They also provided prizes for the highest individual total scorer, the lowest individual total scorer and of course, the winning team.

Still, I am proud to say that at least in this friendly bowling tournament, Team Philippines beat all the superpowers… hehehe! :) The other teams were quite amazed because the boys in our office really bowl well and we had an overwhelming lead – about 400 points from the second placer (see this post on how they won the Filipino community bowling tournament). Honey also bagged the individual top scorer award with a total of 500 in 3 games. The others were all yelling, “No way!” when the emcee announced his score. Well, they should just be grateful I didn’t join or Team Philippines would’ve bagged all the prizes for I was sure to win lowest individual scorer. :)

Naku! Di ko alam na may kasaling celebrities sa tournament, hehe. :-D BTW, I am surprised that there is a ten-pin bowling alley in Phnom Penh, at mukhang first class pa, ha? :-)

FerdzFer, hehehe… kahit sa bowling man lang… :)

Snglguy, actually, the bowling alley was breaking down every minute we were there. Pins were falling down by themselves, the breaker was going down just as someone threw the ball… it was quite funny. :)

Sidney, I was quite surprised really… I was expecting that there were some pretty good bowlers from the other teams. :)

Haha. At least, sikat ang Pinas. It seems Pinoys are really god at bowling, no? To bad it isn’t considered an Olympics sport. I miss bowling tuloy.

Tutubi, yes, it is kind of expensive. I’m not sure… but it could be cheaper here in Cambodia.

Abaniko, yup! We really showed ‘em! :) I remember there was a time when it was an exhibition sport in the Olympics. I wonder what happened with that.

I love Bowling. And for now it is the only sport that I love that I can actually be involved in. I cannot run so much now so football is out. I get pretty tired more so basketball is also crossed from the equation. But Bowling? Now that’s another story. We had a team here of pinoys ourselves and has been into amateur competitions too.

Thanks Pining. We had a lot of fun during the tournament. :)

  18. Toeon 03 Oct 2007 at 2:48 pm

Momoftwo, hindi naman… he really is Paeng! Hrhrhr! :)

Rey, the bowling lanes in Singapore must be really nice and high-tech. I know that Singaporeans could be really good too.

That’s true… football and basketball is not that viable anymore when you reach a certain age. :)

BRAVO ! Yan ang galing ng Pilipino ;) ! Blow out !!!

  21. bwon 03 Oct 2007 at 6:26 pm

You’d be surprised how good Pinoys are with bowling. In every nook and cranny of the world when events like these are held, the Pinoy somehow shows up much like the game of billiards :) In the Middle East Pinoy bowlers are a powerhouse :)

  22. Toeon 04 Oct 2007 at 11:59 am

Haze, hehehe… pizza lang nga, masaya na kami. :)

  23. Toeon 04 Oct 2007 at 12:01 pm

BW, yeah… and they’re not only good players, they’re also real genuine fans. Whenever we watch international bowling or billiard tournaments, there are always appreciative Filipinos in the audience. :)
