On My Way Home

Published by Toe under Cambodia

Sure, there are no landmines in Phnom Penh as most of them are in the countryside. But living in this city could be no less dangerous (and verrrrrrry exciting) with traffic deaths rising sharply with more than four people dying a day in accidents this year. This is according to a report by [...]

Maria Flordeluna…. PATAAAAAAY!!!

Published by Toe under TV

Hehe… I’m just spoofing the way Pinoy TV news reporters report their headlines… in their loud shrieking alarmist voices, they would yell something like,
Dalawang lalaki nahanap sa imburnal…. PATAAAAAAY!!!
Of course they could also be talking about the most mundane things but they would still use the same tone of voice,
Judy Ann Santos nagluto… [...]

Published by Toe under Cambodia, Philippines, Work

The Philippine Flag-Raising Ceremony and the Filipino breakfast are mostly for the Filipino community in Cambodia and are held in the morning. On the other hand, the Diplomatic Reception in celebration of the Declaration of Philippine Independence is held in the evening and is mostly for the diplomatic and official community. Like last [...]

Philippine Flag-Raising and Filipino Breakfast in Cambodia

Published by Toe under Cambodia, Food, Philippines, Work

No, Philippine Independence Day celebrations here in Phnom Penh are not all cakes and pigging-out as I have blogged about in my last post (though there were lots of those). Honey and I were very busy during the past few weeks with preparations, invitations, coordination with the Filipino community, choir practice, every night, etc.. [...]

Eat Cake

Published by Toe under Cambodia, Food, Philippines, Weight Loss, Writing

“Let them eat cake.”
That’s what Marie Antoinette, the notorious extravagant lavish French Queen, supposedly said to the starving angry Parisian mob during a bread shortage (this is just a legend though… she never said it). Well, besides sharing the same name (mine is the Spanish version though), I absolutely have nothing in common with this [...]

Memoirs in Blogs

Published by Toe under Blogging, Memoirs, Writing

For other people, my life may be commonplace and unimportant. But for myself, my life is important, as unique as my fingerprints, and should not be forgotten. That is why I like writing accounts of my life and my favorite category in this blog is my memoirs…
“…a history or narrative composed from personal [...]

Lupang Hinirang

Published by Toe under Music, Philippines, Tagalog, Work

In my last entry, I posted a slideshow to the music of the Khmer National Anthem which my choir, the Koro Filipino, will sing during the Diplomatic Reception here in Cambodia for the celebration of the 109th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. Naturally, how could I not have a slideshow as well for the Philippine [...]

Khmer National Anthem

Published by Toe under Cambodia, Music, Work

Every year, one of the ways we celebrate the Declaration of Philippine Independence is by hosting a reception where we toast for the friendship and prosperity of both the Philippines and Cambodia. My choir, the Koro Filipino, is always tasked to sing the national anthems of the two countries. This year, we will [...]

Finding Love at the Gran Via, Madrid

Published by Toe under Family

The year was 1956. It was the time of rock and roll, malt shops, hula-hoops, and the American bandstand. It was the beginning of the Cold War. It was the time of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean. It was the time of sideburns, loafers, and poodle skirts. Such was [...]
