When we received our recall order last January that we were to go back home on July next year, the urgency of getting a place to live in Manila suddenly haunted us. We left the Philippines for Cambodia in 2002 barely two weeks after we got married with nothing to our name as a [...]

The Choir in Kamuning

I was a piano major in college so Kuya Ray, the grand master and musical director of the choir in Kamuning recruited me to play the piano or organ for the choir. After my first rehearsal, I waited alone outside the church for Cesar, our family driver, to pick me up (for the 15-minute [...]

The Legal Manangs

Published by Toe under Manila March '06, Memoirs, Personal, Writing

I related in this post how my Ateneo Law School friends had a big girls’ night out. Since I wasn’t invited to that gimmick, I threatened them in that post with betrayal and that I would write a book divulging all their secrets. Then I took back my threat for fear of multiple [...]

Borloloys

I am the bunso (youngest) – the youngest of six children; the youngest of thirty-seven cousins on Mom’s side and the youngest of ten cousins on Dad’s side. I also went to school early so I’m younger by an average of two years than a lot of my friends and classmates in [...]

The blue team wears blue, the red team red, the black team black and the yellow team yellow. Why does the green team wear apple [...]

Graceland in Tayabas, Quezon

Published by Toe under Food, Manila March '06, Philippines, Travel

Friday, March 16, Quezon Province. Papa, Mama, Honey, and favorite daughter-in-law drove to nearby Tayabas from Lucena. Honey was curious how this small town in Quezon recently attained its cityhood. Here are two possible reasons: Graceland and Palaisdaan – two of Tayabas’ popular tourist attractions. For today’s entry, let’s check [...]

Chronology is insanity.
Uhmmm… that’s my new motto. Well, I’m making it my new motto now just to rationalize the senseless order of my blog entries lately. One moment I’m blogging about my trip to the Philippines last month. Then, I’d be blogging about the food we just ate. Then, my next [...]
